Professional Advisor for petrol-filling station relocation & rebuilding
Po Fu Lam, Western District

Unreservedly defending clients’ interest through judicial review
We served as Land Consultant for our client whose petrol-filling station in Pok Fu Lam previously fell under the Government’s land resumption plan in order to make way for highway construction. We brought together traffic engineers and geotechnical experts to develop feasible engineering solutions that would completely avoid the land resumption. On our client’s behalf, we filed an objection against the resumption but it was rejected by the Executive Council. Resolutely standing by our client, we supported them to bring the case to court for judicial review. We provided our grounds for objection with supporting expert views, and eventually won the case.

The most sophisticatedly built petroleum-filling station
On commercial consideration, our client finally decided to withdraw the objection to maintain a good relationship with the Government, and instead they worked on a relocation plan of the filling station. For this purpose, they bought a plot further down the same road at public auction. We provided our full support in construction design as well as the application for all official approvals. As the plot was situated at the foot of a steep slope, special methods of construction, substantial application of geotechnical engineering and extra safety work were called for. As the planning consultant and project manager, safety was our highest priority, and despite it being the most expensive and sophisticatedly built filling station in Hong Kong, we kept a balanced control on costs.

Professionalism and total commitment
During the construction period, landslides occurred along the hillside near the site due to a fierce typhoon and rain storm. Despite the extreme weather conditions, with blustering winds and pouring rain, our expert team, including an Authorized Person, structural engineer, land consultant and project manager, immediately went to the site for examination and assessment work. We were relieved to find that the damage to the site was not serious and the construction progress would not be significantly affected. The time and resources spent in reinforcing the safety with precautionary measures in the geotechnical engineering work actually paid off.
